Kenway's Fleet is an automated shipping management system that generates passive Reales, trade goods, and rare collectibles through captured naval vessels. Players assign docked prizes to regional routes from Great Inagua or the Jackdaw cabin.

How Do You Unlock and Expand Kenway's Fleet?

Fleet recruitment is the process of boarding disabled enemy vessels during open-sea engagements. Access to the fleet system unlocks during the main story once Edward assassinates Julien de Casse and claims the estate on Great Inagua. Managing ships occurs at the tactical map inside the Great Inagua manor or directly inside the captain's cabin aboard the Jackdaw.

Before assigning vessels to international shipping routes, you must capture regional naval forts. Destroying the defenses of a red fort clears the local fog of war and opens that zone's trade routes. You can add defeated ships to your roster by reducing their morale during boarding and selecting Send to Kenway's Fleet. Sinking a ship destroys the hull and forfeits the chance to capture it.

Docking capacity begins with limited slots, known as berths. Expanding capacity up to the maximum of ten berths requires completing property projects at Great Inagua, constructing the beachside campfire upgrade, and purchasing slot expansions with Reales directly through the fleet interface.

FrigateWarehouse restocking scout operationsFour-star rating with seven health segments in Chinchorro
Man-o'-WarPatrol missions that reduce regional riskFive-star rating with seven health segments in Serranilla

High-tier ships with superior health pools survive hazardous sea routes far more reliably. As detailed on the official Steam store page, the remake updates fleet interactions directly inside the client rather than relying on external companion apps.

What Ships Are Best for Each Fleet Mission?

Fleet assignments are timed regional operations divided into four distinct categories. Each contract requires a specific vessel classification to launch:

  1. Trade missions require schooners. These contracts trade goods such as rum, sugar, wine, and tobacco for high Reales payouts, providing income to finance jackdaw upgrades.
  2. Piracy missions require brigs. These runs plunder cargo from hostile shipping lanes, awarding raw crafting materials, trade goods, and collectible decor without demanding resources to launch.
  3. Scout missions require frigates. Successfully completing a scout contract immediately resets the heist timer on regional warehouses across nearby islands, cutting the standard seventy-five-minute cooldown down to fifteen minutes.
  4. Patrol missions require a man-o'-war. Heavy warships engage hostile patrols to suppress danger across the sea zone.

When capturing ships, use the spyglass before attacking to identify the vessel's star rating. Capturing two-star schooners produces three-star fleet traders with increased survival ratings, while five-star men-o'-war yield the highest health pools for danger suppression.

Defeating legendary ships tests your tactical maneuvering on the high seas, yet farming standard high-level prizes across Serranilla remains the quickest method to assemble a ten-ship armada.

How Do You Farm Yellowed Map Pieces and Art?

Special map fragments and manor decorations are exclusive rewards gathered through repetitive fleet expeditions. The ten fragments of the yellowed map originate only from trade contracts, while nineteen rare estate artifacts come from piracy contracts.

Yellowed map fragments drop in a fixed regional rotation: northeast, northwest, southeast, west, and southwest. Each territory awards exactly two fragments before the drops rotate to the next sector. To speed up collection:

  1. Clear all five territorial forts to ensure trade routes across the entire ocean remain open.
  2. Dock two three-star schooners and two high-health men-o'-war in your fleet berths.
  3. Send a schooner on the active trade contract in the designated target sector.
  4. Save your game manually before collecting the completed route report.
  5. Inspect the newly generated trade missions. If a yellowed map piece is not listed among the rewards, reload the manual save to roll the mission roster again.

Acquiring estate decorations follows the same reroll technique using five three-star brigs dispatched on simultaneous piracy contracts. Completing these assignments is necessary to finish the art collection inside the Great Inagua manor. If a completed contract like "Fair Share" fails to display the Silver Two-handed Bowl upon payout, the Black Flag Wiki mission report notes that entering the Great Inagua manor directly forces local placement on display shelves.

Managing Risk Level and Ship Repairs

Regional risk is a dynamic hazard rating displayed as a skull meter on the route map. Every completed trade, piracy, or scouting operation raises the danger level of that ocean sector, increasing the damage sustained by returning ships.

Deploying a man-o'-war on patrol missions lowers the sector's risk meter by one tier per completion. Maintaining a low danger rating prevents ships from sustaining heavy structural trauma or sinking during routine assignments. If a vessel loses all health during an expedition, it is permanently destroyed and removed from your berths.

Returning vessels can be repaired inside the fleet dock menu by spending Reales. Because repair fees remain proportional to missing health segments, keeping three-star hulls on routes with minimal risk preserves income and keeps operations moving without interruption.
